Various ATM booths of different banks, already in service in Karachi are installed without keeping in view the world standard causing great embarrassment, inconvenience and denial of services to customers.
Most of the ATM booths are open and uncovered without provision of secured cabin; while many booths having cabins are either not equipped with interior locking doors or doors are not worthy of locking, so as to provide ATM card holders a peace of mind and security.
Above all, one common factor is that none of ATM booths is furnished with 24 hours emergency helpline service in case of un-foreseen fault or sudden un-serviceability of ATM machine at the time of its operation. There have been numerous instances when ATM card holders have encountered the following problems at several ATM booths ATM box was empty and had no money to disburse.
ATM machine failed to deliver the sum while the amount entered in ATM machine was debited to the account of card holder. The currency notes stuck half inside/half outside of ATM machine in response to transaction entry done by card holder.
The ATM card was stuck up in machine and was not retrievable blocking its operation. Consequent to no door at ATM booth or door without lock; un-scrupulous people entered and robbed customer of his money. ATM booths without locked cabin provide unauthorised persons easy access to watch the money transaction and secrecy of account details of customers.
Neither guideline details nor telephonic helpline service available at ATM booths to enable ATM card holders to seek help in case of sudden unserviceability. The Prime Minister of Pakistan and Governor, State Bank of Pakistan are requested to kindly take cognisance of the matter and take immediate corrective measures.
