A one-day English Language Teaching (ELT) training workshop was organised by Department of English, University of Sindh, in collaboration with Oxford University Press (OUP) here on Saturday.
The workshop, which was organised at Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium at Faculty of Arts Building of the university, focused on providing training to English teachers about revised syllabus of English compulsory subject taught by teachers at BA, BSc, BCom (pass Course) and BSc Home Economics part-I and Part-II at colleges affiliated with the university.
About 100 English language teachers from the university and its affiliated colleges from all over province attended the workshop.
Inaugurating the workshop Professor Fareeda Panhwar, head of the English department, said that if a teacher were competent he would render good production.
She said that the university at the its remedial English compulsory classes developed new syllabi and set new books with help of OUP. She said the training workshop organised by the department had more focused on communication skills.
The resource person of the workshop Professor Bushra Ahmed Khurram on this occasion highlighted importance of the workshop.
She was of the view that in Pakistan English is more taught rather than learned and more learned than used.
The OUP representative Simon on this occasion highlighted efforts and collaboration of the university for production of English books to help students and teachers for development of communication skills.
During one-day workshop the training sessions consisted of intensive reading, comprehension and vocabulary building, writing skills, extended reading, grammar and model examination paper. The Dean Faculty of Arts Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio on this occasion distributed certificates among participants.
