The Pakistan Human Development Foundation, Monday, has urged upon the government and law enforcing agencies to ensure the abolition of domestic violence and stressed that there is need to uproot the apathy that has deeply been embedded in the minds of nihilistic lords of the society.
The PHDF office-bearers demanded the government to give due status to women and recognition of their rights at all levels during a meeting held in connection with International Women's Day.
Speaking on the occasion the PHDF chairman Haji Attaur Rehman emphasised that the economic stability, proper health facilities, employment opportunities, skill development and education for women must be on the agenda.
He further said that it is an occasion to review that, how far women have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development. At the same time, there is need to analyse whether their male partners are at their back supporting their cause or not.
The PHDF programme director Sajid Gulzar said that women of many developing countries particularly in Pakistan is subjecting to acute misery, deprivation, inequality, injustice and violence.
The situation of rural women is worse than other parts of the country. Despite dozens of campaigns and projects were launched for the uplift of women but no significant symptoms of attaining the equal rights position are visible yet. The struggle needs more support from masses and stakeholders. It needs more resources, adequate timely legislation.
