Fish hatchery to be set in Rahim Yar Khan

Punjab Fisheries Department will set up a fish hatchery here in the district with an estimated cost of Rs 30 million to enhance fish production in this area and bring it at par with that in upper Punjab.
Provincial Minister for Fisheries Sardar Durya Khan Fayyaz said this while talking to a delegation of farmers here on Thursday. He said the district was facing water shortage due to its location at tail end of the canal system, adding that ground water was also unfit for fish breeding.
However, he explained that a new hybrid breed of fish has been created which can survive such water of Rahim Yar Khan. The minister said with the aim to enhance fish production soft loans with 2 per cent mark up are being provided to farmers to enable them set up fish farms in the province on land unusable for agri-production.
