Shaukat for strengthening ties with Uzbekistan

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that promotion of mutual beneficial cooperation with Uzbekistan is the essence of Pakistan's policy towards Central Asia. "We want to strengthen our relations with Uzbekistan in all fields on the basis of shared interests and common concerns."
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said while speaking at a dinner hosted by Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev in his honour here on Wednesday. Shaukat said Pakistan, located at the confluence of South Asia and Central Asia was set to become a 'commercial and communication bridge' between the two regions.
He also spoke of the common concerns the two countries were facing, including the menace of terrorism. Pakistan is playing a key role in the international campaign against terrorism, and believes in resolving its root causes, he added. Referring to Iran's nuclear issue, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan wanted resolution of the conflict through dialogue.
