'Livestock sector uplift can boost rural economy'

Chief Executive Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) Dr M. Afzal on Monday said that livestock is the 50 percent of our agriculture and the development of this sector would give boost to the rural economy also.
Talking to PTV he said, the vision of government regarding the livestock development is very comprehensive and it is for the first time that a huge budget had been allocated for this sector.
He said the plant being installed by Nestle in Pakistan is the biggest in Asia, which would increase the demand of the milk and would increase the productivity also.
"The livestock sector has tremendous significance in Pakistan and by increasing investment and productivity in this sector we can assist the poor and the living standard of the farmers would also increase", he added.
Dr Afzal said by moving from traditional farming to the modern farming and by maintaining the quality of the milk, Pakistan can become an important dairy sector country. He said livestock sector is playing an important role in national economy and contributed to 50 percent of agriculture value and 11 percent to total GDP during last year.
