Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro has said Pakistan greatly values its friendship with United States as both the countries share common values based on freedom, equality and egalitarianism. In addition to standing for peace the world over. He was talking to the out-going US ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, who paid a farewell call on him here this afternoon.
The Chairman said Pakistan's decision to join the global war on terror was based on principles and it was in its own interest, adding that it would continue to play its due role in this struggle as it believes in serving the cause of world peace.
He said the mutuality of perception between Pakistan and United States on many regional and international issues reflected their close and abiding friendship. He thanked the ambassador for the timely assistance provided by it to the earthquake victims in Pakistan, thereby saving the hundreds of precious human lives.
The Chairman also apprised the ambassador of the various initiatives undertaken by the government for improving the quality of life of the people.
He said Pakistan offers excellent opportunities for profitable investment in various fields and the US businessmen and entrepreneurs could take advantage of the conducive investment environment created as a result of the reforms initiated by the government. It was observed that the two countries must expand their economic relations, as there are tremendous potentials.
Matters relating to promotion of bilateral relations in various fields also came under discussion during the meeting. Mohammedmian Soomro termed the out-going US ambassador as a great friend of Pakistan and wished him all success in his future assignments.
Soomro further stated that the Pakistan Legislative Strengthening Project, which is being run with the collaboration of US aid, is proving to be very beneficial for the Parliamentarian in Pakistan.
The US ambassador to Pakistan commended the Government of Pakistan for taking a just and courageous decision regarding its participation in the global war on terror.
He said the country has made many sacrifices in this struggle and the people as well as the Government of United States recognise its important role. He also appreciated the process of economic development in Pakistan, which he said has transformed the country to a great extent.
Ambassador Crocker called Pakistan a very rich country culturally. He also reiterated US support for Parliamentary Legislative Strengthening Project.-PR
