The Pakistan People's Party on Monday expressed its deep disappointment over the pathetic performance of Pakistani cricket team. PPP MNA Liaquat Ali Dogar, Begum Nasim Chaudhry, MNA, Dr. Javed Siddiqui MPA, Syed Nazim Hussain Shah MPA said in a statement that this humiliating ouster of Pakistan cricket team from World Cup demands an immediate surgical operation to remove the malignancy afflicting the Pakistan Cricket Board.
They said that decline of cricket in the country was the result of the unwise decision to entrusting the affairs of game to incompetent foreign nationals at hefty pay and perks, they said. "When the top boss of the Board is appointed on basis of favouritism rather than competence, merit and experience then the malaise also travels down the ladder," they said.
They said that in the 2003 World Cup Pakistan could not make it to super six and in the 2007 World Cup the team failed to make it up to super 8. The affairs of cricket were being run on ad hoc basis as was evident from the fact that ad hoc committees were functioning for the past eight years.
Despite demands by the Senate Committee and promises made by the Board chairman, Constitution of the Board could not be finalised and the Board chairman continues to run the Board affairs with the assistance of hand picked cronies. The Board chairman has messed up things by odd decisions, including reappointing Younus Khan as the team captain just three hours before the departure of the team on foreign tour.
He said that Nasim Ashraf was largely responsible of the Oval episode that brought shame to the entire country. Last year's prediction, that the undeserving appointment of Nasim Ashraf would prove to be the last nail in Pakistan cricket's coffin, has come true, they said. The absence of the Cricket Board Constitution was causing all these problems, they said.
