'Tuberculosis declining in Pakistan'

23 Mar, 2007

There has been a significant reduction in the TB disease cases in Pakistan as a result of effective nation-wide DOTS strategy and a robust public health education drive, says a statement issued by the Ministry of Health on the occasion of World TB Day.
Free diagnosis and treatment for disease is available in every district of the country. This year, inline with the theme, "TB anywhere is TB everywhere" the Government and its partner agencies reaffirm their resolve to intensify efforts against the disease and ensure that both on the curative and preventive fronts, the challenge is met, said the statement.
An elaborate programme has been chalked out to mark the World TB Day across the country with seminars, walks and special events.
The issue requires the support of the civil society, NGO's and opinion leaders and the world TB Day provides an excellent opportunity to advocate for the cause and bring all stakeholders on one platform, said the statement.
Highlight of the day would be a candle walk starting from China Chowk at 6:00pm and culminating at Parade Area in front of the Parliament House, Islamabad.
People from all walks of life including school children in large numbers will participate. Different TV and radio channels will carry special day-long transmission to highlight the issue and educate the public.-PR
