IBA urges independence of judiciary

Representative of International Bar Association (IBA) Romana St. Matthew-Daniel appreciated the members of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) in their struggle for independence of judiciary. In a telephonic talk with bar secretary, Sarfraz Cheema, he condemned the police torture on bar members and journalists.
He also condemned the action of the President to suspend Chief Justice of Pakistan and termed it a direct hit on judiciary. He called for revival of constitutional position of Chief Justice of Pakistan and urged the government to ensure the protection of fundamental rights of people.
