'Administrative machinery geared up to expedite uplift projects'

Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that administrative machinery has been geared up to accelerate the pace of social development in the big cities of the province and huge resources are being spent for providing opportunities of development to the backward areas of these cities.
He was addressing Union Council Nazims of Faisalabad and Gujranwala at Chief Minister's Secretariat on Thursday. Pace of implementation of urban development programme has been expedited at union council level through effective monitoring which is a practical proof of devolution of power under local government system, he added.
The minister said that a community development programme had also been initiated for the development of cities as well as backward areas. Minister of State for Law, Chaudhry Shahid Akram Bhinder, Provincial Minister for Communication & Works Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din, President PML Gujranwala Zafar Ullah Cheema, District Naib Nazim Gujranwala Jamal Manj and members of National and Provincial Assemblies were also present on the occasion.
The chief minister said that government was providing record funds for the projects aimed at progress and prosperity of masses which was also helping in controlling poverty and unemployment. He assured that comprehensive planning had been made for a new system of sewerage and sanitation, infrastructure development as well as improvement of communication network in big cities and backward areas of the province.
