Insecure and faulty ATM booths

24 Mar, 2007

The letter of Miss. Erum Qureshi on 'Insecure and faulty ATM Booths' published in your issue of 11 March 2007, truly speaks of the common problems being faced by many account holders at many ATM booths in daily routine without any remedial measures.
It is not only me personally but my several friends fell victims of the system faults of ATM booth installed at level one of Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. This ATM booth, being located at airport terminal, has great importance because of its frequent use 24 hours basis, by visiting public and travelling passengers in general and airline staff working at airport in particular.
On several occasions this particular ATM booth on my transaction entries failed to deliver money for the reasons best know to the bank and at times the ATM card stuck in the machine or the system found already hanged.
This booth has no cabin and lock system around it, provides easy access to the other person in the queue following the person performing entries in the system to watch the password entries, balance figure on the screen, the account drawn and possibilities of theft.
Furthermore, there is no helpline service available to guide and assist ATM cardholder in case this booth malfunctions. The Ministry of Finance, Governor State Bank of Pakistan, President of this bank, Director General Civil Aviation are requested to kindly take cognisance of the matter and arrange secure cabin and helpline service at the booth.
