Benazir wisely keeping away from present situation: Humayun

25 Mar, 2007

Minister for Trade and Commerce Humayun on Saturday said that being the head of a major political party Benazir Bhutto has adopted a wise approach by keeping herself away from the prevailing situation following the filing of a reference against Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The Minister, who was talking to a private television channel from London where he is currently on a visit, said that the political parties should avoid politicising a purely legal and constitutional matter. The people in the country have generally demonstrated a very wise attitude by staying away from the demonstrations called by various political parties, the Minister said.
Even the active political workers paid no heed to the calls of their party leaders, he added. People support the development-oriented policies of the present government and they are least interested in the negative politics of the opposition, he said.
The general elections are approaching and the polls would be held in a free and transparent manner, he said adding that the political parties should prepare for the ballot instead of wasting time in abortive protest shows.
