No proposal of forced expulsion of staff in the tax department is under consideration in the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) and their services will be utilised after proper training and capacity building.
This was stated by Member, Human Resource Management (HRM) Muhammad Talha at a workshop on 'Reforms Awareness' held for officers and staff of customs and income tax at Regional Tax Office (RTO) here, on Saturday. Members of audit and research and other CBR officials also attended the workshop.
The speakers replied to various queries raised by the lower cadre staff regarding the expulsion of the workforce and their appointment against double salaries in the RTOs. To a question, Member HRM Muhammad Talha said that CBR had neither presented any summary to government nor the World Bank regarding 'golden handshake scheme'.
"I assure you that no staff will be made redundant, however, a scheme on the pattern of golden handshake will be prepared for those willing to opt for a voluntary exit" he said and further pointed out that only those lower staffers would be selected for double salaries who prove their capabilities and meet internal job posting criteria.
Replying to a question, he said that they had forwarded a proposal to the government for the welfare of the lower staff, including the provision of transport, health cover, education and housing facilities. To another question, he said that the lower staff members were eligible for foreign training and they could apply for it.
Earlier, addressing on the occasion, Regional Commissioner of Income Tax (RCIT) Haji Ahmed proposed that there must be transparency in the internal job posting process and all such appointments should be made on merit. He further suggested that the salaries of the officers and officials to be selected for posting at RTOs should be fixed in accordance with the market rather than making just 100 percent increase in allowances.
