Joint team to check illegal fish netting and tree cutting

A joint team of Forest, Fisheries and Wildlife Departments will conduct surprise raids to check illegal netting of fish, tree cutting and poaching across the province.
The newly posted Secretary Forest, Fisheries and Wildlife Punjab, Sumail Ahmad Khawja told APP here on Sunday that the concept of long term planning will be introduced in all wings of the department to make the best use of available resources.
He said the first priority will be to check pilferage of resources by ensuring transparency in decision making process. He said that DGs of fisheries and wildlife departments and chief conservators of forest will be given target to be achieved within given period. He said main emphasis will be laid on creating awareness among the people for planting maximum number of saplings during tree planting seasons, promoting disease resistant best quality fish seeds at affordable rate to boost fish production on commercial level besides conserving the national wealth of wildlife.
Sumail Ahmad Khawaja said that the private sector will also be fully involved in promotion of wildlife by allowing them to set up game reserves and zoo. He said that number of fish farms in the province being manned by private sector will also be increased manifold to meet the ever increasing needs of cheap protein.
