The religious scholars should promote awareness about hazardous effects of narcotics in the light of Islamic teachings. Mosques ought to be made a platform for sensitising people about tribulations of addiction.
The Punjab Human Rights Minister, Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmad stated this while talking to a 10-member delegation of NGOs activists and religious scholars at his residence on Sunday.
The minister observed that narcotic is a great danger for the whole humanity as besides being a social evil, it also endangers physical health.
He said that proactive role of Ulema and the non-formal sector is equally important in this regard and urged upon the Ulema to sensitise people through mosques. "Addiction is an evil while our religion guides its followers in the right direction and teachings of Islam are very much pivotal in developing a healthy society."
