New SBP deputy governor assumes office on Thursday

Yaseen Anwar, a senior banker will assume office as Deputy Governor, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), on March 29, 2007. Having broad hands experience in managing operations, payments and credit, Anwar is expected to head Corporate Affairs at the central bank.
Yaseen started banking career in 1973 with Chase Manhattan (now J.P. Morgan Chase), New York, in credit development and assisted in setting up the bank's joint venture in Saudi Arabia. He joined the Bank of America, in London, as Assistant Manager, responsible for syndication's in Middle East in 1976, he was posted to Cairo in 1979, and in 1982 was transferred to New York and promoted as Assistant Vice-President. He left Bank of America in 1991 to join Merrill Lynch & Co as Senior Private Banker to manage portfolios of high net worth and institutional clients. In 2001, he joined the Washington D.C-based Riggs & Co, in London, as Director of Private Banking. Recently, he was Executive Vice President of Kraken Financial Group, London.
Meanwhile, the SBP has re-appointed Mansur-ur-Rehman Khan as Deputy Governor with effect from March 17, 2007 till further order. Mansur-ur-Rehman Khan, who took over as SBP Deputy Governor on November 02, 2004, completed his first tenure of office on March 16, 2006.
