28 Mar, 2007

The GC University, Lahore, in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, organised the inaugural ceremony of a six-day long 'Professional Development Programme' at GCU here on Monday.
Addressing the inaugural session, GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Aftab said the objective of the programme was to enhance professional development and capacity building of the faculty members of the GCU, besides extending knowledge sharing opportunities to keep them abreast with the latest educational methodologies.
He emphasised the need to ensure quality education to help bring noticeable improvement in the educational arena. He said that professional development programme was an effective platform to help teachers enhance their knowledge and improve their teaching skills. He further said that one should not consider education as consumption expenditure.
Talking about the past days, he said that education was in a trivial position when only feudal lords of the specific areas got their children enriched with knowledge but with the passage of time, the scope of formal educational facilities had been widened by and large.
"Academic notes need to be improved and knowledge needs to be updated and this is also the need of the time", he maintained. Orientation on topics including curriculum development, communication and teaching skills, learning styles, motivation, assessment techniques and research methodologies would be made by learned academic scholars of GCU.
