Government committed to supremacy of law: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday said that people have given a resounding testimony of political maturity by roundly rejecting the opposition's call for general strike in the country.
Addressing Pakistani community here, the Prime Minister said all provision of the constitution were strictly followed while filing reference against Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and the government which is committed to supremacy of law will accept whatever verdict is given by the Supreme Judicial Council. Prime Minister Aziz said this issue should not be used for political purposes and every one should wait for the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council.
Appreciating the spirit of the people to reject the strike call of the opposition, the Prime Minister that people have shown the constructive attitude and spirit as they do not want anarchy and disruption in the country.
Talking about President General Pervez Musharraf's Middle East initiative, the Prime Minister said it is singular honour for Pakistan that the President has been invited to participate in the Arab League meeting, although Pakistan is not its member.
The Prime Minister said the invitation to President to attend the meeting of Arab League also proved that the country has respect and honour in the world community and could play due role in resolving the political disputes and ensure peace and security in the region.
The Prime Minister giving details of economic development in the country to the Pakistani community said that during the current year, various records have been achieved on the economic front. The foreign investment during the last eight months has crossed dollars 4.6 billion figure and it is expected that it will cross 5.5 to 6.0 billion dollars by the end of this year.
The Prime Minister said the government made policies for the national interest and not a single decision has been taken for personal interest. While appreciating the contribution of Pakistanis living in Hong Kong, the Prime Minister said they had been playing vital role in the economy of this country besides serving their own people in the country.
Giving details of his meeting with the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Donald Tsang, the Prime Minister said he informed him about the role being played by Pakistanis in the Hong Kong economy and requested him to provide more facilities to them like issuance of visas etc.
Earlier, Consul General Pakistan Tariq Shafi Chak while addressing on the occasion said Pakistan community has been playing very effective and positive role with their contribution in different walks of life in Hong Kong.
