Work on Chrah dam to start soon: Elahi

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi on Tuesday said work on Rs 3.5 billion Chrah dam would be started soon to address the irrigation and drinking water problems of the district.
"We have so far completed 17 mini dams in Potohar region to boost agriculture in this arid area, which would help end unemployment and poverty in the region," the chief minister said this while addressing a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh on the occasion of inauguration of Nullah Leh Expressway.
Ellahi said during the last over four years, the Punjab provincial government had launched development projects costing Rs 18 billion in Rawalpindi and more projects of public welfare would be launched. Under Big City Package, Rs 5 billion would be spent on change of sewerage and water supply lines project, to be completed in three years, he said.
Addressing the public meeting, Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Nullah Leh was a big problem for the people of Rawalpindi and the President Pervez Musharraf has resolved this issue once for all.
He said in seven months, Railways had shown an increase of 2.5 million passengers and a revenue of Rs 2.25 billion. Javed Ikhlas, City District Nazim Rawalpindi also addressed the gathering and thanked President for opening a mega project for people of Rawalpindi.
