28 Mar, 2007

The Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the proceedings till March 28 of an enquiry into police torture on journalists and bar member. The court decided to ask the Supreme Court of Pakistan for appropriate extension in time for completion of inquiry.
The court held that since the time fixed by Supreme Court of Pakistan is going to expire and proceedings are likely to take more time. Thus lawyers asked the court to make a joint request before the august court for extending time.
Earlier, the court recorded the statement of eight journalists including President and Secretary Punjab Union of Journalists and Secretary Lahore Press Club. The court also produced the copies of two applications moved by Lahore High Court Bar Association for inspection of damaged chambers of lawyers and for summoning of the record available with the media.
