Rs 1.798 billion rise in nine-month revenue receipts

The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has so far collected Rs 586.298 billion during July-March 2006-07 against the target of Rs 584.5 billion, showing a growth of Rs 1.798 billion. According to the provisional data released on Saturday.
The Board collected Rs 586.298 billion in nine months of the current fiscal year, compared to Rs 489.822 billion in the corresponding period of last year, indicating an increase of 19.7 percent. Tax managers were confident that the revenue collection would further increase after compilation of final figures in the coming days.
Tax-wise breakup shows that direct taxes collection was Rs 233.789 billion against Rs 152.696 billion of last year, showing an increase of 53.1 percent. Sales tax collection was Rs 216.676 billion against Rs 202.403 billion, depicting growth of 7.1 percent.
The collection of sales tax at the import stage stood at Rs 124.427 billion during the period under review against Rs 121.107 billion in the same period last fiscal year, indicating an increase of 2.7 percent. Sales tax collection on domestic consumption was Rs 92.240 against Rs 81.296 billion, showing an increase of 13.5 percent.
The collection of customs duty was Rs 89.289 billion against Rs 95.077 billion, reflecting a decrease of 6.1 percent. The Board collected Rs 46.543 billion as federal excise duty (FED) against Rs 39.646 billion, showing an increase of 17.4 percent. The CBR paid refunds and rebate of Rs 63.987 billion against Rs 65.416 billion, indicating decrease of 2.2 percent.
The Board paid income tax refund of Rs 22.805 billion against Rs 24.252 billion, showing a negative growth of 6 percent. Sales tax refund stood at Rs 30.701 billion as compared to Rs 26.823 billion, depicting an increase of 14.5 percent. Customs duty rebate stood at Rs 10.377 billion during this period against Rs 14.107 billion, showing a decrease of 26.4 percent.
The Board paid Rs 104 million as FED rebate against Rs 234 million with a decrease of 55.5 percent. Monthly breakup showed that revenue collection in March 2007 was Rs 71.324 billion. Direct taxes collection was Rs 34.978 billion; sales tax, Rs 21.983 billion; FED Rs 4.8 billion and collection of customs duty was Rs 9.608 billion. The Board paid Rs 4.605 billion as refunds and rebates during March 2007.
