The lawyers' community will observe a full-day strike on Tuesday, April 03 to protest the suspension of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.
Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has announced to hold protest meetings, rallies, boycott of the courts, wearing black stripes and hoisting black flags on bar buildings on April 3.
The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has also decided to take out a protest rally on April 03, at the Mall Road against the suspension of Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The bar in its meeting held with Ehsan Bohn in the chair, also decided to observe full-day boycott of the courts and asked the bar members to reach Islamabad to join the protest against President Musharraf for suspending Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The meeting also decided to hold protest meeting and rally and asked Syed Manzoor Ali Gillani, Azam Nazir Tarar and Sheram Sarwar to represent the LHCBA in Islamabad protest. The meeting, however, requested the bar office bearers to remain in the city and lead the rally. Among others, Senator Sardar Latif Khosa, former president LHCBA Ahmad Awais and Secretary Lahore Bar, Waseem Butt addressed the meeting.
The speakers vowed to continue their struggle for the rule of law, independence of judiciary and revival of constitutional position of Chief Justice of Pakistan.
They said that bars would not allow the rulers to undermine the judiciary and lawyers would continue their struggle for the protection of fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan, rule of law and revival of the constitution of Pakistan in its original shape.
