Special funds have been given to the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) for the welfare of women community of the city, Raja Javed Ikhlas, District Nazim said here on Wednesday.
Addressing the meeting of CDGR women members at the office of District Co-ordinator Officer, he said the federal government had given Rs 2.2 million for the women development programmes to be carried out in the city. The amount would be utilised for women's skill development, legal aid, literacy programmes and for girls' education, Ikhlas said.
He said the funds would be utilised for the welfare of women, with particular focus on backward areas of the city adding that city government would monitor and ensure proper utilisation of these funds.
He said the city government would devise a comprehensive strategy for proper utilisation of these funds and asked the women members to forward their suggestions within one week.
He said, their suggestions would be given full consideration to ensure timely and appropriate use of the funds. The District Nazim said that welfare of women was among top priorities of the government, adding that the government has established a crisis centre in the city to help the wretched women for leading a respectable life.
