Spokesperson of PPP and former Senator Farhatullah Babar has said that the democratic forces and the civil society have rejected the threats by some clerics to introduce the so-called Shariah and set up Qazi court in the federal capital as a ploy of the regime.
In a statement, Farhatullah Babar said the purpose behind the ploy is to divert public attention from the ongoing crisis in the judiciary and to frighten the international community that the choice in Pakistan is between military dictatorship and religious fundamentalism.
"Taking the law into their own hands and setting up parallel government and a parallel system of judiciary by some clerics in the federal capital is not possible without the connivance of the agencies and regime." "It is aimed at making the world believe that fundamentalist forces have besieged General Musharraf so as to seek their support and not make strident calls for restoration of democracy."
"The regime has killed a former Balochistan governor, denied him also a decent burial, has held in cage another provincial chief minister, pulled the chief justice from hair in public view and come down heavily on democratic dissent. It's apparent meekness before clerics setting up parallel judiciary is hypocrisy," the statement added.-PR
