Modern and fully equipped motor vehicle testing stations would be established all over the province, said Provincial Minister for Transport Pir Ghulam Mohyuddin Chishti on Friday.
He said Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi believes that transport system in the province should be modernised and several steps are being taken in this regard. He said through modern testing machines road-worthiness of vehicles will be ensured, adding that all the relevant record would be computerised and made available at the station concerned.
"Each station will be headed by a qualified mechanical engineer", he explained. The Minister said that such a station is being set up at Lahore as a pilot project. He said the provincial government has decided to introduce CNG-fuelled buses in five big cities-Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala, so that air pollution could be controlled. He added that environment-friendly CNG rickshaw scheme is also being launched by the government.
