The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has suggested to form a joint action committee comprising all the opposition parties to strengthen the ongoing movement for the independence of judiciary. The proposal was floated at the PML-N Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which met here on Monday with party's chairman Raja Zafarul Haq in the chair.
The meeting discussed various matters including the suggestion to include the entire frontline leaderships of all the opposition parties in the JAC to further intensify the ongoing movement for the independence of judiciary.
The meeting appealed all the democratic parties, civil society organisations and general public to shun their differences at the moment and come forward for a joint effort to liberate the country from dictatorship and restore genuine democracy and rule of the Constitution of 1973. Briefing the reporters after the meeting, the PML-N secretary general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said the committee would co-ordinate with the lawyers community to make the ongoing movement a success.
The committee observed that attack on judiciary by the government has shaken the foundation of judiciary and rule of law. The committee also observed that elections could not be held in free, fair and transparent manner till the return of the exiled leadership and their participation in the election campaign, he said. Jhagra said the meeting also vowed to hold a successful protest outside the Supreme Court building on April 13 on the appearance of the non-functional Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry before the Supreme Judicial Council and also urged other opposition parties, civil society organisations and general public to ensure their participation.
