National Assembly Speaker Amir Hussain has said that President Pervez Musharraf will be accorded a rousing welcome when he visits Sialkot on April 11.
Talking to Business Recorder at the Rest House here on Monday he said that President Musharraf would perform the foundation stone laying ceremony of Pak-Swedish Engineering University and Sialkot-Lahore motorway, and would address a public meeting at Sialkot Garrison Park.
The Speaker said that Privatisation Minister Zahid Hamid, Provincial Industries Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema and members of parliament, members of district assembly and tehsil councils were coordinating the arrangements for the public meeting.
It is expected that people from all rural and urban areas will attend the public meeting and it will be a momentous public meeting in Sialkot district, he said. Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi would also accompany the President and will also address the public meeting, he added.
The National Assembly Speaker further said that construction of Sialkot-Lahore Motorway, costing Rs 20 billion, would not only reduce the travelling distance and time between Sialkot and Lahore but would also open a new era of prosperity and development, thereby accelerating the pace of export-oriented industrial activities here.
Similarly, the Pak-Swedish University will provide wide opportunities of higher education to the local population and of the other adjoining districts, he added.
Local Holiday: In connection with the visit of the President, Sialkot District Administration has declared local holiday on April 11 (Wednesday) in Sialkot district. However, the Matric Exams would be held, according to schedule in Daska, Sambrial, Sialkot and Pasrur tehsils, according to Sialkot District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rizwanullah Baig.
