More than 100 clerics took out a procession led by Mufti Abdul Khaliq, Haji Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Akram and Muhammad Ashraf in Haroonabad to urge people not to watch television or cable programmes or play CD & DVD to listen to music or song.
"We are waging a crusade against nudity, obscenity, vulgarity, indecency and anti-Islam customs and we are acting upon the advice of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)," Mufti Abdul Khaliq told newsmen. He said that people should boycott those NGOs and political parties who were staging demonstrations against Jamia Hasfa and Lal Maasjid for their ulterior motives.
Earlier, a meeting was held on Sunday in Al-Habib Mosque in which the participants vowed not to attend any musical function, dancing, bands etc nor they would let anyone watch cable programmes or TV. When contacted DSP Haroonabad Syed Azhar Hussain said," we are keeping vigilant eyes on the activities of some so-called reformers, however' we cannot take action against them unless they violate law."
