Malaysian manufacturers at the Fourth International Trade and Industry Fair, held recently in Karachi, received total 458 trade enquiries, with potential sales of ringgit 5.59 million.
The three-day annual event, held last month, attracted about 100,000 trade visitors and potential buyers, said the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) in a statement on Wednesday. During the event, Matrade facilitated the participation of 11 Malaysian companies under the Malaysian pavilion.
The fair was expected to provide Malaysian exporters with enormous opportunities in the growing Pakistan market and access to surrounding markets in South Asia and Central Asia. Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Pakistan has been on the rise in the last five years. Exports to Pakistan amounted to ringgit 3.31 billion last year.
Karen Chia, of Cospac company, manufacturer of personal care products and a participant at the event, said that Pakistan as an emerging market promised good opportunities. Meanwhile, A Z Holdings chief executive officer Datin Aisah Mahmud said that the company's booth received 145 visitors, who had the capacity to promote their beverages in Pakistan.
