15 Apr, 2007

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Tariq Azeem has said neither the President nor the Prime Minister can appoint the members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). Talking to VoA he said, the composition of the SJC has been mentioned in the constitution.
Three senior most judges of the Supreme Court and two senior most provincial Chief Justices will be the members of the Council. To a question he said that levelling objections on the composition of SJC by the defence counsel is their right. SJC itself has to decide whether the objections carry any weight. To another question he said, hearings are conducted according to the nature of a case.
