Marala-Ravi link canal bridge near Sahuwala collapses

The bridge on Marala-Ravi link canal on Sialkot-Wazirabad road near Sahuwala collapsed causing suspension of traffic on Sialkot-Wazirabad. The public have been facing serious problems owing to collapse of the bridger.
After having the information of the collapsed bridge the Sialkot District Nazim rushed to spot and directed the concerned authorities to divert traffic on alternative rout.
Meanwhile, the District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema while talking to Business Recorder told that the bridge was in deteriorated condition which was constructed in 1954. Muhammad Akmal Cheema said the new bridge on MR link canal was being constructed which will be completed in near future.
The people while expressing their views said that the bridge was collapsed due to the negligence of the concerned department because the department was reluctant to repair the old bridges in Sialkot district.
They appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister and Governor Punjab for holding immediate inquiry into the incident of 53-year-old MR link Canal Bridge. A comprehensive survey of old bridges should be conducted for ensuring safe journey and avoiding the loss of lives in Punjab they demanded.
