The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will launch its flagship publication "Economic and Social Survey of Asia and Pacific-2007" here at UN Information Centre (UNIC) on Wednesday (today) at 2.30pm.
According to a statement of UNIC, the survey entitled "Surging ahead in uncertain times" addresses the most important current issues facing the region including Pakistan.
The issues are included: sustained strong economic growth but inflation and trade deficit genuine concern, rural physical infrastructure for rapid poverty reduction in South Asia, gender inequality continues -at great cost, Pakistan-sustained strong economic growth but inflation a genuine concern, rural infrastructure for rapid poverty reduction and gender balance possible at a minimum efforts and cost-but only with strong political commitment.
The survey will be launched in Pakistan at a press briefing to be held here at UNIC and Dr Sarfraz Khan Qureshi, Director of the Innovative Development Strategies will present and explain salient features of the survey and shed light on the analysis of Pakistan's performance. The report will be launched on the same day in the other cities of the region as well as in New York and Geneva.
