Poverty in rural areas affecting agriculture: SU vice chancellor

The Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has said that poverty in Sindh is more in rural areas, that is why agriculture is being affected.
He commented on a research topic 'Impact Assessment of Agriculture Growth and Rural Poverty Reduction in Sindh province of Pakistan' submitted by a candidate for his PhD work for approval under Sindh Development Study Centre (SDSC).
He was presiding over 95th meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (AS&RB) here on Wednesday. Deans of the faculties, members nominated by academic council, senior professors, registrar and controller of examinations attended the meeting.
The vice chancellor welcoming scholars and their contribution towards promotion of research said that relationship of guide and student is of mutual respect and understanding and added that research must open new avenues for benefit of the common people.
He said that this high-level body meeting must consider aspect of research producing scholars, which should be beneficial to society. The meeting considering request of 12 candidates approved research topics and appointed research supervisors for their MPhil in Economics, Environmental Sciences, Information Technology, Biochemistry, Computer Sciences and Education.
The meeting allowed registration to two candidates for MPhil in Information Technology and four candidates for registration in PhD in disciplines of Health and Physical Education, Information Technology, Botany, Education.
It also allowed change of registration of two candidates from MPhil to PhD in Area Study and Zoology and topics for MPhil of two candidates in Information Technology, Zoology and one candidate in Development Studies.
The meeting also approved names of different scholars for MPhil and PhD research guide and co-guide. The meeting approved to allow PhD degree to Ms Saleha Parveen in Education in light of reports of the examiners.
Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dr Anwar Ali Shah, Dr M.Y. Khuhawar, Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Dr Sanaullah Bhutto, Muhammad Saleh Rajar, Dr M. Qasim Bughio, Dr Abdullah Dayo, Dr Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Dr Parveen Usmani, Dr Inayatullah Shah, Professor Iqbal Hussain Kazi, Dr M.Raees Ahmed, Dr Parvez Pathan and others attended the meeting.
