Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) said on Friday that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would commit political suicide if it struck any deals with Musharraf regime. "We consider the deal or compromise an insult to us. It would be a political suicide if any party strikes deal with present rulers."
PML-N Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal said in reply to a question regarding PPP alleged deal with the government. He was speaking at a news conference here while launching a document "Loot Sale: Mega Corruption Scandals of General Pervez Musharraf Government". Responding to a question, Ahsan said PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif would soon return to Pakistan by 'defying' President Musharraf.
"We demand resignation of President Pervez Musharraf. A national government should be formed where exiled leadership be allowed to come back," he said. Ahsan Iqbal hoped that the signatories of Charter of Democracy (CoD) would abide by their commitments to continue their struggle for the restoration of true democracy in Pakistan.
When asked about the future of CoD and Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) if PPP strikes a deal with the government, PML-N information secretary said even then CoD and ARD would not have any danger. Speaking about the judicial crisis, he demanded of the government to immediately reinstate Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. "The government has revolted against the judiciary by filing presidential reference against the Chief Justice," he maintained.
The statement of Deputy Attorney General, Iqbal continued, has established the fact that the government has revolted against the judiciary. "This is the worst institutional crisis we have ever faced in our history," he said blaming that it was PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain who attacked the Supreme Court building on the directives of intelligence agencies back in 1998 to tarnish the image of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).
Ahsan Iqbal said corruption had been rampant during the last eight years as well. According to the document compiled by PML-N, there are several 'mega scandals' like Steel Mills, Habib Bank, PTCL, railway engines, stock exchange, sugar crisis, cement crisis, oil cartel, Pak American Fertiliser, agency rule, destruction of judiciary, demolishing constitutional institutions and assault on media. About ongoing power crisis, PML-N secretary information said there was shortage of 2000-megawatt electricity, which could go well beyond 5000 megawatt.
