The median overnight interbank rate on the Egyptian pound was about steady at 8.76 percent on Sunday, just fractionally above the lower limit of the central bank's overnight corridor, in a liquid market, bankers said.
The median rate on Thursday, shown in a Reuters survey, was 8.75 percent. The central bank calculated 8.781 percent for Wednesday and by 1100 GMT it had not posted a rate for Thursday.
Banks tend to revert to the interbank market in the absence of auctions for the higher-yielding central bank certificates of deposit, causing rates to fall.
"The market's very liquid ... so what's the point? We'll just send it to the central bank," said one trader.
The central bank pays 8.75 percent on overnight deposits and will lend overnight at 10.75 percent, in effect setting lower and upper limits for the overnight interbank market.
Three out of nine banks contacted by Reuters reported dealing overnight, at rates between 8.75 and 8.78, compared to rates of 8.75 and 8.76 percent on Thursday. One bank said it had dealt one-week money at 8.8 percent, the same as on Thursday.
By 1100 GMT, the pound had strengthened to 5.6804 pounds to the dollar from Thursday's closing weighted average of 5.6843 pounds.
