Punjab AAG resigns

24 Apr, 2007

The Additional Advocate-General, Punjab, Khadim Hussain Qaiser, resigned here on Monday to express solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, and to join the legal community in its struggle for supremacy of Constitution and rule of law.
Addressing a news conference in the office of Pakistan Bar Council in Supreme Court building, he said that he was expecting that the government would ultimately realise the critical judicial crisis created by filing of the reference against the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the spontaneous reaction of lawyers all over the country, and withdraw the reference.
He said that he had sent his resignation to Punjab Governor "and now feel free" to join the nation-wide struggle spearheaded by the legal fraternity for upholding of the constitution, independence of judiciary and inviolability of the citizens' democratic and human rights.
