The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will give a presentation to the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Salman Shah for approval of double pay package for selected tax officials at Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), Model Customs Collectorates (MCCs) and Tax Facilitation Centers (TFCs).
Sources told Business Recorder on Monday that the CBR Chairman and Secretary, Ministry of Finance would jointly give a presentation covering areas of double pay package policy for new reformed units including MCCs/TFCs. Sources said that the Secretary General Revenue Division and Secretary, Finance have ample powers to approve the special allowance (equivalent to 100 percent of basic pay) for reformed units.
However, presentation would be given to the highest authority of Ministry of Finance to update him on the latest reform initiatives, new organisational structure of customs and approval of package for MCCs etc. It is learnt that the joint recommendations of the CBR Chairman and Secretary Finance would also highlight the revenue impact of special allowance to be extended to other employees on the customs side.
Officials said that the board has already approved setting up of MCC at Gawadar to facilitate international importers and foreign companies. The decision is a part of CBR plan to setup MCCs in all major cities including Gawadar. All the MCCs would become operational by December 2007.
