Complete strike by Karachi lawyers

25 Apr, 2007

Lawyers of Karachi observed complete strike on Tuesday and boycotted all courts proceedings to express solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry. They took out a procession from Karachi Bar Association office and marched through M A Jinnah Road to reach the Chief Minister House.
They burned copies of the reference against the chief justice filed by the government. The lawyers once again asked political parties to remain away from their struggle against the suppression of judiciary and 'insult to the institution of judiciary', by the government.
They said they would continue their struggle till such time as the reference against the chief justice was withdrawn and he was reinstated in his 'rightful position'.
Aaqil Lodhi, chairman, human rights committee of Sindh High Court Bar Association strongly condemned Pemra for issuing notice to Aaj TV. SBC in its special meeting held at the SBC office adopted a resolution and condemned Pemra for its 'illegal and uncalled for act of indifference toward freedom of press'. The meeting demanded its immediate withdrawal.
