Tissue typing laboratory being set up at LGH

The government of Punjab has accorded approval to set up first of its kind state-of-the-art tissue typing laboratory in public sector at Lahore General Hospital (LGH). Post-graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Professor Dr Sajjad Hussain said on Monday that the tissue-typing laboratory would offer PCR and DNA tests facilities.
The laboratory would be made functional within two months at a total cost of Rs 5.4 million, he said. He added that no public sector hospital in Punjab provide with tissue culture facility for kidney transplant patients and donors. Consequently, the patients were compelled to consult with private sector at exorbitant rates, he added. He also said that the PCR test facility in a public sector hospital would give a great relief to the Hepatitis-B and C patients.
