PZC seeks proposals for Zakat system improvement

Provincial Zakat Council (PZC) in its meeting sought workable proposals from its members for the uplift of Zakat System and construction of Zakat Complex, establishment of central library and record room, practical training of the members of District Zakat Committees and provision of sufficient promotional opportunities to District Zakat Officers.
The meeting of PZC was presided over by the Chairman, Justice Muhammad Akram Baittu (Retd). It was attended by Secretary Zakat and Ushr, Tauqir Ahmed Faiq, members of the Council Dr Mehmood-ul-Hassan Arif, Hafiz Shams-ur-Rehman, Allama Zubair Ahmad Zaheer, Muhammad Jar-ullah Rizvi, Zareena Tabassum and Begum Hamid Rana besides representatives from Finance, Social Welfare and Local Government Departments.
While commenting on the proposed Zakat Complex, members of the Council said that in Lahore, Zakat Department presently possesses five offices situated at different places.
Which do not serve the purpose of beneficiaries at their maximum and also cause lack of coordination therefore, construction of Zakat Complex in provincial metropolis was direly needed. It was suggested that the complex should comprise of the offices of Minister Zakat and Ushr, Chairman PZC, Secretary, Administrator Zakat Punjab and District Zakat Committee along with establishment of central library and record room.
Second proposal stressed upon imparting practical training to the members of District Zakat Committees on modern lines so that after assuming their charge as members, they could be able to run the affairs more efficiently. Chairman of the Council, Justice Muhammad Akram Baittu (Retd) appreciated the proposals and termed them a milestone for the betterment of Zakat system.
He constituted a sub-committee comprising members of the council, Jar-ullah Rizvi, Administrator Zakat Punjab and Director Administration, Social Welfare Department to further review the practicability of the proposals presented in the meeting and submit final report in next meeting in this regard.
