Dr Ajmal Psychological Society of the Psychology department of GC University Lahore on Tuesday organised a pre-conference seminar with reference to HEC-BC Academic Link activities and Mental Health Week, 2007.
A Clinical Psychologist from the University of Brimingham, UK Dr Jan R Oyebode delivered lecture on qualitative research methodologies while Dr John Rose from the same university discussed the practice-based research in detail.
Dr Oyebode discussed the basis and roots of qualitative research and described the range of qualitative methodologies. She said that quality research was concerned with the quality of a phenomenon. She further said that in the United Kingdom, people expect life to be trouble free and they mostly talk about maintaining harmonious attitudes.
She said that qualitative research methods were usually flexible and open-ended. She also presented qualitative analysis. Academic Director, Clinical Psychology Department, Brimingham University UK, Professor Dr John Rose described practice-based research. He described the measures ranging from quantitative to qualitative analysis and talked about the advantages and disadvantages of the practice-based research.
Professor Rose, who also runs a series of anger management groups in UK, described the incidents of challenging behaviour and anger inventory. Chairperson, Psychology Department of the GCU, Dr Kausar Sohail, faculty members of the department and a large number of students attended the seminar.
