Low growth of BoK due to political meddling

26 Apr, 2007

The newly formed Bank of Khyber Officer's Association (Bokova) has attributed the low growth of the Bank of Khyber (BoK) to massive political and provincial government's meddling in the affairs of the bank.
Addressing maiden press conference, the office bearers of Bokova including president, Rahmat Shah, general secretary Engineer Saif-ur-Rehman Khalil and others alleged that the bank had miserably failed in achievement of its desired goal to play major role in the development of the province.
They said that basic reason behind the formation of the officers' union is continuous exploitation of the professional and competent officials, who are being forced to leave the bank and join other financial institutions in the country.
The reputation of the bank, they said was turned so worse that no senior banker in the country was ready to join it as managing director (MD) and the bank was run through acting managing director. He said that the sitting MD had joined the bank after making a deal for a handsome salary package.
The management of the bank has made no increase in the salaries of the employees for the last six years and with the coming of the new managing director they were expecting increase in their incentives, but he also failed in bringing any improvement in their salary package.
Regarding the role of the members of board of directors, they alleged that they are working for serving different interest and the welfare of the employees had never remained in priorities of their agenda.
They said that all employees of the bank were standing behind them and waiting for their single call to render any kind of sacrifice for the cause of bringing improvement in their incentives.
However, they said that they are professional bankers and want to work in the interest of employees and development of the bank. The Bokova, he said has been organised with active membership of all employees of the bank. The association, he added has been registered with Registrar, Labour Union, F.C Plaza, Peshawar after completing all legal requirements.
