Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi speaking on the oath taking of Lahore Press Club newly elected body here on Saturday said that his family had played a role in support of journalist community which he was taking forward with similar zeal.
He particularly mentioned name of Chaudhry Zahur Elahi MNA late whose role he said for the journalists was the source of aspiration for the family. The CM on the occasion announced Rs 5,00,000 increase in annual grant of the press club raising it from Rs 15,00,000 to Rs 20,00,000 on the occasion. He also announced an amount of Rs 15,00,000 for renovation of the press club in his visit.
Dealing with all important matter pertaining to announcement of balloting of the colony of the journalists of Lahore for which his visit was long awaited, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that now was the time when he could say something positive on the matter as bottlenecks had been removed.
He announced in thundering clapping sound of journalists oozing over to hear the all important news for which they had waited long enough said that they would get the balloting result of the colony and their allotment letters by May 15, 2007. He however advised journalists to show prudence by not selling off their plot as making a house was an important factor for which he had also announced to built colonies in other major cities including Multan and Rawalpindi for the press fraternity, he added.
The President Lahore Press Club Mohsin Goraya in his address of welcome on the occasion praised the services of chief minister Punjab for journalist community. Taimur Azmat Usman Secretary Information Punjab, Mian Amir Mahmood District Nazim and large number of other dignitaries were present on the occasion. Momentous were also distributed in the function. The elected body of press club stands as President Mohsin Goraya; VP Fahim Gohar Butt; General Secretary Syed Shoaib-u-Din; Finance Secretary Zia Ullah Khan Niazi and seven executive members including Rana Ikram; Rao Nifasat; Sh.Aftab; Usuf Abbasi; Khalid Chaudhry; Emanuel Sarfraz and Naeem Akhtar.
