Jehangir Badr disallowed to leave country

29 Apr, 2007

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has denounced the regime for stopping PPP secretary general Jehangir Badr from proceeding abroad despite court permission. The PPP secretary general Jehangir Badr was scheduled to leave for Dubai on Saturday night and had the court's permission to leave the country for a few days.
He has been going out of the country in the past also and returned within the stipulated time allowed in the exit permit. However, on Saturday he was made to wait for the whole day in Islamabad and informed at the close of office hours that he could not leave the country.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that the action of the regime showed its desperation with the stance of the opposition over issues of democracy. He said that it was most cruel to make Jehangir Badr wait for whole day and at the end refuse him permission to travel.
Makhdoomn Amin Fahim said that such tactics would not deter the PPP. He asked the regime to immediately lift the restriction and allow Jehangir Badr to proceed to Dubai. He said that Jehangir Badr has been going abroad in the past also and returned and there was no reason to withhold permission for him already granted by the court.
