Wasim Akhtar, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Home Affairs, has acknowledged that posting and transfer of police officials are ordered on political consideration.
This he said during meet-the-press held at the Central Police Lawn on Saturday, saying that the Sindh police affairs are politically driven and had become a part of political culture which could not be changed overnight. On the occasion, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Azhar Farooq, Secretary Home, Brigadier Mukhtaram and other police officials were present.
He said that An FM radio station, and a call centre at the Capital Police Office (CPO) are planned to be set up to enhance the police performance and to control traffic in the metropolis. He also said that a special unit for control of cyber crimes and anti-human rights activities being set up.
He said that police could not render better results of what it had been giving in the given resources, adding that the police have been trying to overcome deficiencies.
He apprised that he had been given presentations by various police departments to overcome the confronting problems particularly manpower were needed to be increased for better performance. "Police is faced with severe lack of manpower and that is one of the reasons of its weakness in certain departments," he maintained.
Wasim said that recommendations for the salary increase equal to that of Punjab police had been sent, hoping it would also improve performance. He said police vehicles and personnel posted for the security of police officials and other individuals would be withdrawn and only required numbers of policemen would be appointed for such purposes.
