I remember your paper exhorted on umpteenth occasions the need for vital links between roads and economic development. It is unfortunate that the highways department and government of Sindh are not sufficiently alive to their responsibilities to keep roads in pliable conditions.
I particularly wish to draw their attention to the most deplorable conditions of the road from Hyderabad to interior Sindh as well as to Karachi city. This road caters to the transport needs of a very vast area and it should be developed as soon as possible. This entails heavy containers traffic.
Traffic passes here at a snail's pace and there is risk of vehicles turning turtle. Deep potholes litter the road which cause damage to the vehicles. Cases of engines stopping right in the middle of the road or tyres getting punctured or spring leafs breaking into two are matters of common occurrence. Although the road is two-way vehicles drivers use only one side. This condition has been persisting for two years.
Such is the miserable conditions of these roads that factory owners dare not invite foreign buyers to visit their establishments. I request that this issues may be taken up immediately.
