Fourth kidnapped child released on ransom

30 Apr, 2007

The parents of fourth child, kidnapped from Metroville and Frontier Colony areas of SITE Town Karachi in last three months, have also got their loved one released from the clutches of kidnappers on payment of ransom.
The abducted boy is said to have returned last week when his father paid ransom of about Rs one million to the kidnappers based in Malakand agency. Despite return of the boy, the insecurity prevails among Pushtoon speaking residents of Metroville and Frontier Colony areas who fear more kidnappings of their children, as the kidnappers are still at large.
Four-year Qasim son of Hashim Khan was kidnapped from Frontier Colony on 12 April. His FIR was filed at Pirabad police station. Police however failed to recover him.
According to Hashim, he was asked by the kidnappers to come to Peshawar. On reaching there, kidnappers directed him to get on bus and come to Mardan. 'When I reached Mardan they directed me on mobile phone to come to Malakand Agency (Fata). Later they kept directing me into certain streets and villages and lastly I got my child back from a lady in return of money who was representing kidnappers.'
Hashim's neighbours however do not believe that child was taken to Malakand Agency. Instead they say that kidnappers were locals who directed him to stage such situation for his own security. Police sources however have confirmed that such a group based in NWFP did all kidnappings.
