Gunny bags shortage hits farmers

30 Apr, 2007

Hundreds of wheat growers and farmers have strongly protested against the shortage of gunny bags in Bajwat's far off 85 bordering villages along the Working Boundary.
Talking to newsmen here, several wheat growers said that this nasty situation was repeatedly brought to the notice of the food department's concerned officials, but no practical steps were taken by the government in this regard.
They said that the wheat growers were suffering from great difficulties in transporting their wheat yield to the official procurement centers due to non-availability of gunny bags.
They said that their big quantity of the harvested wheat yield kept in the fields was being affected badly by the bad weather. The affected growers have urged the federal, provincial and district governments to look into the matter. When contacted, the concerned officials of the food department averted to comment, in this regard.
