Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Muhammad Ali Durrani said that a high level investigation into Charsadda suicide bomb blast had started in which 28 persons were killed and 52 injured.
Addressing a press conference here at a local hotel on Sunday, he said Additional IGP NWFP, Fayyaz Toru would head the investigation team and all the federal departments were extending full cooperation in probing the incident.
Durrani said according to initial reports, the bomber used an eight to 10-kg explosive device and blew himself up a few feet away from the Federal Interior Minister, Aftab Sherpao.
He reiterated government's resolve to check such incidents by taking strict measures. Muhammad Ali Durrani stressed upon the provincial government of NWFP to give serious consideration to law and order situation in the province. He said recurrence of such incidents in a short period in the province was a matter of serious concern.
The minister said it was the responsibility of every one to take measures for prevention of such incidents and provide security to life and property of common people.
He urged all the political leaders and intellectuals to chalk out a policy for curbing such incidents in view of the upcoming general election.
He said these terrorist acts should be condemned at all levels. He regretted the practice of accusing others after such incidents.
The federal minister said maintenance of law and order in the province was the duty of the provincial government and it should take concrete measures to check such incidents.
In response to a question about allegation of some political leaders, he said there should not be any blame game and stressed for making joint efforts in curbing extremist tendencies.
Durrani said political statements on law and order issue was not beneficial and it was the need of hour to adopt pro-active approach for averting such incidents in future.
Informing about his meeting with Aftab Sherpao, Durrani said Sherpao was safe and in high spirit. He said the federal interior minister also attended funeral prayers in Charsadda. However, he said, Aftab Sherpao was deeply grieved over the tragic loss of precious lives.
